The Opportunity

The Research Officer (RO) will join the Genomic Cancer Medicine Laboratory of Professor David Thomas and Dr Maya Kansara. This role uses insights from human genomic data to identify genes and functionally assess their role in predisposition to osteosarcoma using transgenic mice. 

The key responsibilities include:

  • In vivoand in vitro analysis of transgenic mouse models of osteosarcoma using physiological, immunohistochemical and molecular biology related techniques
  • Collating experimental data, writing up experimental procedures and interpreting experimental results
  • Being responsible for the writing of manuscripts, with an emphasis on submissions to high quality journals
  • Communicating your research as well as relevant publications and developments in the field to those involved
  • Recommending ways of improving techniques, quantitative methods and quality control
  • Assist in preparing research grant proposals to secure funds

The role will be full-time for 2 years in the first instance and the salary offered is $81,935 pa.

About You

The RO will possess a PhD in cancer biology and 2 years of relevant experience. They must have knowledge of sarcoma biology and research experience in the sarcoma field.  The RO is expected to demonstrate competence in in vivo preclinical mouse cancer models, cellular biology (tissue culture, proliferation assays), molecular biology (RNA/DNA extraction/PCR), and immune assays including immunohistochemistry and multiparameter flow cytometry.

You will be self-driven, possess a love of learning and have a friendly and enthusiastic disposition. You should also be able to demonstrate autonomy and consistent work quality as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. You will be goal-oriented and have strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
